Privacy policy
Beyond Grid Life Knowledge Commons (“Beyond Grid Life”, “we”) is operated by Beyond Grid Life. We designed the site to work without collecting personal information. This policy explains what little data is involved and where it goes. We aim to handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version
- No accounts, no sign-up, and no advertising or analytics trackers. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts (see below).
- Things you save on the site (your kit, checklist ticks, contribution drafts, market choice) stay in your own browser. We cannot see them.
- Nothing you type into the contribution form is sent to us unless you choose to email or export it.
- When you follow a link to a retailer or another website, that site’s privacy policy applies.
Information stored in your browser
The site uses your browser’s local storage so it remembers things between visits. This data never leaves your device unless you export it.

To suggest a market, the page reads your device’s time-zone setting. This happens in your browser and is not sent anywhere. The site also stores a copy of its own pages in your browser (a “service worker” cache) so it can open without a connection. You can remove all of this at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Contributions you send us
If you email a contribution or correction to info@beyondgridlife.com, we receive your email address, anything you write, and your name or alias if you include it. We use this only to assess, edit and publish the contribution, and to contact you about it. We do not publish your email address. If you give a name or alias, we may credit you by that name unless you ask us not to. Please do not include other people’s personal or health information.
Fonts
The site’s typefaces (Atkinson Hyperlegible and Barlow Condensed) are loaded from Google Fonts. When your browser downloads them, Google receives your IP address and browser details, as with any web request. Google states that it does not use Google Fonts requests to build advertising profiles. See Google Fonts privacy. If the fonts cannot load, the site uses your device’s own fonts.
Hosting and server logs
Like any website, the company that hosts this site (Wix.com) may automatically log technical information such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the service secure and working. We do not use these logs to identify individual visitors. Retention is governed by the host’s own policy.
Links to retailers and affiliate programmes
Product links take you to manufacturers or retailers. If Beyond Grid Life joins an affiliate programme, the retailer may place cookies on its own website to record that you arrived from Beyond Grid Life. Beyond Grid Life does not receive your name, contact details or what you bought—only aggregate commission reports. See our affiliate disclosure.
Overseas disclosure
Our hosting provider and email provider may store data outside Australia. Wix.com, which hosts this site, may store data in the United States, Ireland, South Korea, Taiwan and Israel, among other locations.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you (for example, contribution emails), ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to info@beyondgridlife.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
If we add any feature that collects more information—such as analytics or a shared contributions database—we will update this policy before turning it on.
